Work with Dainvo Tasks and synced tasks
Dainvo supports Dainvo Tasks and synced tasks.
Dainvo Tasks
Dainvo Tasks are stored in Dainvo. Use them for work that does not need to live in another task service.
You can create Dainvo Tasks, schedule them on the calendar, complete them, reopen them, and add them to buckets.
Task creation and editing use an in-app task modal. When more than one service or account is available, choose the service, account, and list or project before saving. Due-date and reminder controls use Dainvo's shared date picker and reminder menu, so reminders require a due date before they can be saved.
Synced tasks
Dainvo can connect Todoist, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, TickTick, and Obsidian. Supported task fields vary by service, but common fields include title, notes or description, due date, completion state, list or project, tags or labels, and priority.
Todoist projects are used for Todoist task filtering and selection. Dainvo Projects are disabled for now, so Todoist projects are not shown as Dainvo projects.
Microsoft To Do accounts can sync normal To Do lists and tasks. Microsoft does not expose My Day or Assigned to me through the API Dainvo uses, so those smart lists do not appear in Dainvo.
Obsidian imports checkbox tasks from a locally paired vault or the direct Dainvo Task Manager relay and keeps safe note links. Dainvo desktop can create new Daily Note tasks only when Daily Note task creation is enabled for the paired vault. Dainvo mobile can view and complete/reopen relayed tasks but cannot create, edit, move, or delete them. Obsidian tasks support a smaller field set than full task services, so description, reminders, repeat, deadline, duration, and project selection are hidden.
Dainvo Daily Notes are separate from Obsidian tasks. Writing in a Dainvo Daily Note does not create Obsidian tasks or sync into a vault.
Scheduling a task
Dragging a task onto the calendar creates a scheduled task block. The task remains the same parent task; the calendar block is only the time you plan to work on it.
Scheduling a synced task in Dainvo creates a Dainvo planning block. It does not automatically change the due date in the connected service. If you move a synced due-date block on the calendar, Dainvo keeps that block as Dainvo planning time instead of rewriting the connected service's due date.
Settings > Tasks can use one default writable calendar for every task account or a different default for each account. The calendar shown in the task editor is saved as that task's preferred calendar. A calendar slot you clicked or dragged onto still takes priority for that new block.
Multi-slot task planning
Tasks can use more than one scheduled calendar block when multi-slot planning is enabled for the task. Use this when one task needs several work sessions instead of one long block.
Multi-slot scheduling is not service recurrence. The task stays one task, and Dainvo stores separate Dainvo calendar blocks for each planned work session.
Free accounts can use multi-slot planning for Dainvo Tasks. Multi-slot scheduling for Todoist, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, TickTick, and Obsidian requires a paid, Alpha, or Development license. Existing synced tasks that already have multiple blocks remain visible and can be moved or removed, but Free accounts cannot add extra synced-task blocks.
When multi-slot is off, dragging an unscheduled task to the calendar schedules it once. Dragging a task that already has one calendar block reschedules that block. When multi-slot is on, dragging the same task to the calendar can add another block.
Completing tasks
Checking a task completes the parent task. That means it updates in task lists, scheduled task blocks, and bucket task lists.
If you reopen a completed task, it becomes open everywhere again.
Task visibility
Settings can hide Dainvo Tasks or synced tasks from lists and calendar surfaces. Hiding a service does not delete tasks and does not stop sync. If every task service is hidden, task surfaces show an empty state. Obsidian also has a setting to hide blank checkbox tasks imported from notes.
Overdue tasks in Inbox
Open tasks with a due date or deadline before today can appear in Inbox. From there, you can open, complete, dismiss, or drag a task onto the calendar to reschedule its due date or deadline. Turn this list on or off with Show overdue tasks in Inbox under Settings > Tasks.
Dismissing an overdue task removes that current overdue entry from Inbox without deleting or completing the task. A later changed due date or deadline can make it eligible again.
Pending changes
When Dainvo is offline or a connected service cannot be reached, changes may wait until the next successful sync. If you see pending changes, use Sync now in Settings. If a sync conflict appears, choose the version you want to keep.
