Create events, tasks, and buckets on the calendar
The calendar lets you create three kinds of items: events, tasks, and buckets.
Calendar views include day, week, month, agenda/list, and year. Day and week views are best for drag scheduling. Agenda/list view is useful for scanning upcoming items. Year view is useful for longer-range planning.
Open the create menu
Click or drag on an empty calendar slot. Dainvo opens a small menu near your pointer with three choices:
- Event
- Bucket
- Task
Choose the type that matches what you want to plan.
Create an event
Use an event for meetings, appointments, calls, deadlines that belong on a calendar, or anything that should behave like a normal calendar item.
When you create or edit an event, choose the calendar, title, time, location, reminders, availability, privacy, attendees, and any online meeting provider you need. The options change to match the selected calendar: Google can offer event colors and supported Workspace event types, while Outlook can offer importance and categories.
The event editor includes a day preview while you create or edit, so you can check the surrounding schedule before saving.
Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar can send invitation email for attendees when the event supports it and you choose to send updates. Local Dainvo calendars and CalDAV calendars can store attendees, but Dainvo does not send invitation email for those calendars.
Invitations sent to you can appear in Dainvo's Inbox. Open Inbox to accept, tentatively accept, decline, or inspect a supported invitation. Outlook invitations can also offer Suggest a new time when the organizer allows proposals.
The Location field accepts plain text on every plan. Alpha, paid, and Development accounts can also search Google by address or business name, select the correct map result, and open the selected place in Google Maps later.
Read-only calendars can be shown in Dainvo, but editing may be blocked by the provider.
For recurring events, attendee behavior, and ICS import/export, see Calendar events, attendees, and ICS.
Create a task block
Use a task when the item is completable work. A task can exist as a task list item, and it can also be scheduled on the calendar as a task block.
Scheduling a task does not turn it into a calendar event. It stays a task, and checking it off completes the task everywhere it appears.
Drag a task from the task sidebar onto the calendar to schedule it. If the task already has one block and multi-slot planning is off, dragging it reschedules the existing block. If multi-slot planning is on, dragging can add another planned work block for the same parent task.
Create a bucket
Use a bucket when you want to block time for a group of tasks.
For example, create a bucket called Admin work from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, then add tasks like reply to invoices, update CRM notes, and review your task inbox. Only the bucket needs to appear as the scheduled calendar block.
Bucket creation and editing use the same calendar-focused controls as event creation, including a preview of the selected day. The Contents area can hold tasks, files, and folders before you save the bucket.
After a bucket is created, open its details panel to add, remove, or reorder tasks, files, and folders. Choose Mixed to keep one combined order or Tasks first to group tasks above file and folder links.
You can drag tasks onto a bucket on the calendar or into Contents. You can also drop local files or folders into Contents.
Use weather on the calendar
If calendar weather is enabled in Settings > Calendar and a weather location is selected, Dainvo can show weather icons and temperatures in day, week, and agenda/list views.
Open a daily note from the calendar
If Dainvo Daily Notes are enabled in Settings > Calendar, supported day, week, and month calendar views show a Dainvo Notes button on each day. Click it to open that day's local Markdown note.
If Obsidian Daily Notes are also enabled, Dainvo can show a separate Obsidian Daily Note button for the same day. Use the Dainvo Notes button for Dainvo's local notes, and the Obsidian button for the paired vault note.
Work across time zones
Settings > General lets you set the current calendar time zone and add other time zones. In day and week views, the time-axis label can switch the visible calendar time zone, and the quick view can show other configured zones when you hover hour labels.
Click behavior
Single-click an event or task block to open its compact popup. Single-click a bucket to open its compact popup, or select it in the right details panel when that panel is open.
Click the same item again to close its compact popup.
Double-click an item when you want to open the editor.
Right-click an event to open its provider-aware context menu. Common actions include Open, Print, and Duplicate Event. Writable organizer-owned events can also offer Edit and the appropriate Delete or Cancel Meeting action. Outlook events can add email, forwarding, room, privacy, availability, and category actions; Google events can add guest email, room, visibility, availability, and event-color actions. Dainvo hides organizer-only changes from invitees and disables actions it cannot safely apply to the selected provider or recurring occurrence.
If an event has a supported online meeting link, its compact popup can show a join action for Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Webex.
